Key Allies
MANNA FoodBank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has served Western North Carolina since 1983. As an accredited member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, MANNA’s mission is to involve, educate, and unite people in the work of ending hunger in Western North Carolina. MANNA partners with over 300 community-based nonprofit food assistance agencies across 16 counties and the Qualla Boundary, creating a vital regional network that ensures neighbors have access to food in their own communities. Through this network and its direct programs, MANNA works to increase food access, strengthen local capacity, and respond quickly in times of crisis. MANNA FoodBank is dedicated to educating the public about issues that could impact our neighbors now and in the future. The Asheville Buncombe Food Policy Council (ABFPC) is a community-based coalition. Its mission is to identify, propose and advocate for policies, financial appropriations, and solutions to improve and protect the local food system in order to advance economic development, social justice, environmental sustainability, and community resiliency. The ABFPC operates through working groups that bring issues to the Council’s Policy Mobilization Hub for action influencing policy, advocacy and systems change.
